Dr Shailesh Khatri is one of Australia's most experienced senior interventional cardiologists. Originally from Fiji, he came to Australia in 1983 and earned his medical degree from the University of Queensland in 1990.
Cardiology training followed at the Royal Brisbane Hospital, Prince Charles Hospital and John Hunter Hospital, Newcastle. Without mandate or financial incentive, he established the Primary PCI service at Tweed Hospital entirely for uninsured patients from across the NSW border. That service operates to this day, saving lives that would otherwise be lost.
